Coffee Tables

Is it important to get a Coffee table or a Centre table that matches with your Couch? I'd say No, because I bought my Couch and my centre table from two different places and yet they complement each other really well. The important thing to remember is to try and match the wood color as much as possible or at least keep them in close shades, otherwise they might end up looking odd, when put together. If you don't have any wooden handles or legs showing on your couch, then you have little to worry about, almost anything will go with your couch.

One really nice design that I haven't been able to get over, is the table seen in the hit television show Two and a Half Men, in the living room area. It looks so casual, yet classy and doesn't take up much space.

The knobs all around the table give it a vintage look. It might appear to be more suited for a bachelor pad, but I think it goes well with small living rooms, for any house. It can be made to look more delicate or rusty, depending on what you place on it, for decoration.

I simply love the collection of tables at Pottery Barn. If you like the vintage look and feel weak in the knees every time you come across something vintage, then you might want to give Pottery Barn a good, long look.

Here are some of the tables as seen on the Pottery Barn website

Things to keep in mind before buying a centre / coffee table:

1) If your couch is wooden, keep the table within the same wood color range.
2) The table should be low or high (in height) to suit the height of your couch. For e.g. Low seating Zen furniture should have a very low table.
3) The wood (in case you are buying a wooden table) should be of good quality so that it lasts longer and should also be treated for termites.
4) Find out what all you need to know to take care of the table, for e.g. what varnish to use, or how to clean it. My furniture salesman told me to apply Linseed oil for lightening any scratches and to maintain it's sheen.
5) If you move around a lot, then you could also get a table which is easier to pack and move, and isn't too bulky.
6) If you're looking for a table that can also store stuff, then go in for something with drawers or shelves, or maybe a table that looks like a treasure chest.
7) Lastly, pick up something which comes with some sort of warranty from the seller, because it's a heavy investment and you would rather be safe with some sort of assurance.
